Oral Hygiene

To keep your teeth and gums healthy, plaque needs to be removed at least twice a day. Plaque which is not removed hardens and becomes calculus, this cannot be removed with normal brushing. Regular dental examinations and cleaning prevents this calculus building up and causing gum disease.

Fillings / Restorations

A dental restoration or dental filling is using dental restorative materials to restore the function, integrity and morphology of missing tooth structure that has been lost due to decay or fracture. The most common filling materials are composite resin, glass ionomer and amalgam.

Root Canal Treatment / Endodontics

Root canal or endodontic treatment is a process whereby inflamed or dead nerve tissue is removed from the inside of a tooth enabling the tooth that was causing pain and/or infection to be retained. The space where the nerve has been removed from is then filled with a special filling material.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks.

Crown and Bridge

A crown is an artificial hollow cap/cover that is fitted to a discoloured, broken, worn, or previously decayed tooth. It is designed to improve strength, function and appearance. A bridge is an appliance permanently fixed in the mouth to replace missing teeth. It uses remaining teeth to support the new artificial tooth or teeth. This is different to a partial denture which can be removed for cleaning and/or adjustment.

Implants

Implants are used to support crowns, bridges or dentures that replace missing teeth. They are titanium fixtures that are placed within the jaw bone that bone then attaches to.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks.

Bleaching / Whitening

The process of teeth bleaching involves the use of oxidising agents such as carbamide peroxide to chemically lighten the colour of your teeth. This may be applied inside the tooth in the case of an individually root filled tooth that has gone dark in colour or via trays as an external bleach to change the colour of multiple teeth.

Veneers

Veneers are coverings on the front of teeth to improve their colour and/or shape. They may be applied directly to the teeth using composite (white) filling material or manufactured from porcelain in a dental laboratory. They sometimes also require gum surgery to achieve the best result.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a process of preventing, diagnosing and treating dental and facial irregularities. This can include teeth misalignments, jaw growth problems and missing teeth just to name a few.

Dr. Ella Jin is able to provide orthodontic treatment to children and adults with a certain range of orthodontic problems including: fixed and removable expanders, removable growth managements applicances, clear aligners for selective cases and fixed orthodontics (braces).

For more complex cases where a specialist is required Rosebud Dental Group refers to an orthodontic specialist.

Preparing For Your Childs First Visit To The Dentist

We always recommend bringing your child with you from a young age to your own routine (exam and clean only) appointments. They can sit and watch and become familiar with the dentist and dental setting. We will often let them have a ride on the chair too, and count their teeth. If your child is a little hesitant this time, that’s okay, we’ll try again next visit. They more times they come the easier it will get.

If your child is a little older and familiarisation hasn’t happened yet, that’s okay too. We’ve put some really useful links below to assist you. The YouTube videos are great for the kids! Who better to tell them about the dentist than Peppa Pig or Curious George? The ADA brochure also runs through some ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ and other handy tips which can really help.
